The Rentabao Valley is located in the southeastern part of Efate island and is one of Vanuatu's most fertile and economically important valleys. It is traversed by the Rentabao River, which flows year-round and provides the foundation for the region's extensive agriculture. The valley is well-known for cattle ranching, coconut palm cultivation, and cocoa plantations. Geologically, the valley is an erosional feature carved into Efate's limestone plateaus, possessing rich alluvial soils. Near the river mouth, popular natural swimming pools and waterfalls are located, serving as significant destinations for local tourism. Historically, the valley was a focal point for indigenous settlements and later for colonial plantation owners. Today, it plays a central role in supplying the nearby capital, Port Vila, with fresh produce while providing essential ecological corridors for local wildlife.
