Dubai Safari Park (United Arab Emirates)

Weather…

Dubai Safari Park is a 119-hectare wildlife reserve and zoo that opened in December 2017, replacing the older Jumeirah Zoo. Located in the Al Warqa district, the park was uniquely constructed on a former landfill site, making the project a landmark example of ecological repurposing. The facility is organized into several thematic villages, including the African, Asian, and Arabian Villages, as well as a specialized Explorer Village for safari drives. It is home to over 3,000 animals representing approximately 250 species, including rare white lions, cheetahs, and white rhinoceroses. A major focus of the park is sustainability; many of its operations are powered by solar energy, and water is recycled for irrigation across the grounds. Beyond its role as a tourist attraction, the park actively participates in international breeding programs for endangered wildlife conservation.

📋 Practical info

📅
Best season
The optimal time to visit is during the mild winter months from November to March, as the extreme summer heat causes most animals to seek prolonged refuge inside their air-conditioned indoor quarters.
🌅
Best time of day
Arriving right at the early morning opening time or waiting until the late afternoon features the best experience, as the cooler temperatures naturally encourage much higher activity levels across the park.
📜
Etiquette
Respect the wildlife by never tapping on the large glass viewing windows, staying consistently on the marked pathways through the villages, and leaving all animal feeding strictly to the professional staff.
🎒
What to bring
Supportive walking shoes are absolutely mandatory for covering the vast distances between the geographical zones, alongside strong sun protection and a refillable water bottle for staying well-hydrated.
🧭
Getting there
Located out in the Al Warqa district, the park is most easily reached by taxi or private vehicle; once inside, an internal network of eco-friendly buses significantly helps with navigating the huge area.
🦌
What to expect
Because the enclosures are designed to be expansive and naturalistic, animals have plenty of places to hide; slow down, linger quietly at the viewing decks, and wait patiently for them to reveal themselves.
