Sarny is a significant city in the Rivne Oblast of northwestern Ukraine, widely regarded as one of the nation's most critical railway junctions. The town's emergence dates back to 1885, during the intensive construction of the Vilnius-Rivne and Kovel-Kyiv rail lines which met at this strategic point. Geographically, Sarny is situated in the historical region of Volhynia on the banks of the Sluch River, surrounded by the vast forests and wetlands characteristic of the Polesia landscape. The local economy is driven by woodworking, the production of building materials, and extensive railway maintenance and logistics operations. Its location at the crossroads of vital north-south and east-west corridors gives Sarny immense logistical importance for international trade. The city's cultural life is enriched by traditional Polesian folklore and a growing number of educational facilities. Sarny also serves as the gateway to the northern part of the Rivne region, an area famously known for its significant deposits of amber.
