Bakhchisaray Palace (Ukraine)

Weather…

The Khan's Palace in Bakhchisaray, also known as Hansaray, is a unique architectural gem and the only surviving residence of the Crimean Khans in the world. The complex was built in the 16th century under Khan Sahib I Giray and served as the political and cultural center of the Crimean Khanate for over two centuries. The architecture of the palace reflects the Ottoman and Crimean Tatar styles, characterized by delicate wood carvings, colorful stained-glass windows, and idyllic inner courtyards with fountains. One of the most famous spots within the complex is the 'Fountain of Tears,' which gained worldwide fame through Alexander Pushkin's poem and is a symbol of the Khan's deep grief for his deceased wife. The extensive grounds also include the Great Khan Mosque, the Divan Hall for state affairs, a harem, and the family tombs of the Giray dynasty. Today, the palace is a UNESCO World Heritage candidate and houses a significant museum of Crimean Tatar history and culture. Despite numerous restorations and historical fires, the complex has preserved its Oriental mysticism and elegance, offering a fascinating insight into the era of the Khans.
