Tefisi is one of the largest and most significant villages on the island of Vavaʻu in northern Tonga. The village is located on a high plateau in the western part of the main island and has excellent views of the surrounding seascape. Tefisi is an important agricultural center, with the cultivation of premium vanilla being the main source of income for export. The village community is known for its high level of education and strong administrative organization within the Vavaʻu group. Historically, Tefisi played a key role in the religious development of Tonga, particularly in connection with the establishment of Methodist traditions. The infrastructure includes several schools and a health center that also serves neighboring smaller settlements. Village life is characterized by a mix of modern agriculture and strict adherence to traditional Tongan protocols. Due to its elevated position, Tefisi is often cooler and windier than coastal villages.
