Ha'ano Island (Tonga)

Weather…

Ha'ano Island is a low-lying coral island located in the northern part of the Haʻapai group, approximately 14 kilometers north of Lifuka. With a total surface area of 6.58 square kilometers, the island is characterized by its narrow shape, featuring sandy beaches on the western side and rugged limestone cliffs on the eastern coast. The island is home to four main villages, Muitoa, Ha'ano, Pukotala, and Fakakakai, where the population maintains a traditional way of life based on subsistence farming and fishing. Ha'ano is historically significant as the birthplace of several prominent Tongan figures, including the late Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pōhiva. One of the island's unique natural features is the large colony of fruit bats, also known as flying foxes, which inhabit the trees at Pukutola Point. The lack of an airport ensures that the island remains relatively isolated and preserves its authentic cultural heritage. The surrounding reefs are known for their exceptional clarity, offering some of the best diving and snorkeling opportunities in the central Tongan archipelago.
