Jaco Island (Timor-Leste)

Weather…

Jaco Island is an uninhabited, sacred island at the easternmost tip of East Timor and is part of the Nino Konis Santana National Park. The island is characterized by its pristine white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters, which are rich in coral reefs and marine biodiversity. In local culture, Jaco is considered 'Lulik' (sacred), which is why permanent settlements are traditionally prohibited. Visitors can reach the island via small fishing boats from the Valu coastline, but staying overnight is not permitted. The island's isolation has helped keep its natural flora and fauna largely undisturbed. Jaco is a paradise for divers and snorkelers, as the surrounding waters home some of the best-preserved coral gardens in the region. The island marks the point where the Banda Sea meets the Timor Sea, resulting in interesting currents and a high density of marine life. Its silence and natural beauty make Jaco one of the country's most valuable ecological treasures.
