Ko Mook, or 'Pearl Island,' is a standout destination in Trang Province, famous for the dramatic Tham Morakot (Emerald Cave). To reach this lesser-known spot, visitors must swim through an 80-meter sea cave tunnel that opens into a secret lagoon with a white beach enclosed by towering limestone cliffs. The island's other icon is Sivalai Beach, an impressive white sand spit that reaches far out into the crystal-clear Andaman Sea. Unlike more developed islands, Ko Mook maintains a characterful, laid-back atmosphere with a local fishing village at its heart. The food is fresh and authentic, featuring southern Thai specialties and daily catches from the sea. The waters around the island are one of the few places in Thailand where you might spot rare dugongs (sea cows) grazing on seagrass. The west coast provides dramatic sunset views from atop rugged cliffs, while the east is excellent for relaxing under palm trees. Reaching Ko Mook is easy via a short boat ride from Kuan Thung Ku Pier in Trang. On the island, getting around is mostly done by motorbike taxis or rented bicycles. The best time to visit is from November to April when the weather is well-suited for boat trips and swimming. Visiting the Emerald Cave early in the morning is highly recommended to avoid the midday crowds. It is a great spot for those seeking both adventure and authentic island tranquility.
