Ko Lanta gives a refreshing contrast to its more boisterous neighbors, maintaining a peaceful atmosphere that makes it a favorite for families and digital nomads. The island is characterized by long, golden beaches along its western coast, including the popular Long Beach (Phra Ae) and the more secluded Kantiang Bay. It's a place where the pace of life slows down significantly. At the southern tip, the Mu Ko Lanta National Park features a scenic lighthouse and hiking trails through rainforest. For a dose of local culture, Lanta Old Town on the eastern side provides a glimpse into the island's multicultural heritage, featuring wooden houses on stilts and a community composed of Thai-Muslim, Thai-Chinese, and sea nomad populations. The dining scene is diverse, with fresh seafood being the star of the show, often enjoyed at sunset in one of the many beachfront 'reggae bars.' Ko Lanta is also the gateway to some of the Andaman Sea's best diving sites, like Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to April.
