Yehliu Geopark (Taiwan)

Weather…

Yehliu Geopark, located on the northern coast of Taiwan, is world-renowned for its bizarre and spectacular geological formations carved by wind and sea erosion over millions of years. The park's most iconic landmark is the 'Queen's Head,' a mushroom rock that resembles the profile of a monarch. The park sits on a 1.7-kilometer-long cape jutting into the Pacific Ocean, featuring a diverse array of unique shapes including 'Fairy's Shoe,' 'Ginger Rocks,' and 'Sea Candles.' These formations are created as the softer layers of sandstone are worn away faster than the harder nodules within. Due to ongoing natural erosion, the neck of the Queen's Head is thinning every year, sparking international conservation efforts to preserve it. The geopark serves as an open-air museum of geology, providing visitors with a rare opportunity to see tectonic movements and fossilized remains in a dynamic coastal environment.
