Taipei 101, located in the Xinyi District, served as the world's tallest building from its completion in 2004 until 2010. Standing at 508 meters, the skyscraper's design incorporates traditional Chinese architectural elements resembling a stalk of bamboo with eight distinct segments, symbolizing prosperity and growth. A critical engineering feature is the 660-metric-ton tuned mass damper, a massive golden sphere suspended between the 87th and 92nd floors, which stabilizes the structure against typhoons and earthquakes common in Taiwan. The tower is a global icon of modern Taiwan, housing a major financial center and high-end retail spaces. It holds the LEED Platinum certification for sustainable operations, making it one of the tallest green buildings globally. The observatory on the 89th floor provides panoramic views of the Taipei Basin, attracting millions of international visitors annually. Its high-speed elevators, reaching speeds of 60.6 km/h, can transport passengers from the 5th floor to the observatory in just 37 seconds.
