Taibao City is the county seat of Chiayi County, located in the fertile Jianan Plain of southwestern Taiwan. The city is named after Wang De-lu, a high-ranking official of the Qing Dynasty who held the honorary title of "Taibao." Historically an agricultural town focused on rice and sugar cane cultivation, Taibao underwent significant transformation in the late 20th century when it was selected as the site for the new county government headquarters. A major cultural landmark is the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum, which opened in 2015 and has turned the city into a regional arts hub.
