💡 Tips
- For the best views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, visit the Alpen tower. Take the gondola to Mägisalp and then continue to the tower. The morning hours often offer the clearest views.
- The Haslital guest card, which you often get from your accommodation, features free or discounted public transport, including PostBuses and some mountain railways.
- The Muggestutz dwarf trails between Mägisalp and Bidmi are a must for families. Plan enough time as the interactive stations will delight the children.
- Car parks at the valley stations can fill up quickly in summer. It's often easier to leave your car in Meiringen and use the mountain lifts or PostBus.
- Look out for small, unmanned refrigerators along hiking trails. This is where local farmers often sell alpine cheese and sausages on a trust basis.
🍽 Food
Buy this flavourful hard cheese directly from an alpine dairy during a hike. The taste is intense and reflects the diversity of the alpine herbs.
Enjoy this classic Swiss potato dish at a mountain restaurant, ideally served with a fried egg and bacon to refuel after a long hike.
Try the huge meringues with lots of cream, a specialty of the region. You can find them in almost every restaurant and cafe.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The Hasli valley is close to Brienz, the centre of Swiss woodcarving. Look for handmade souvenirs in local gift shops or in Meiringen.
Many farms in the region have small self-service shops where you can find local products like honey, dried meat, eggs, and jams.
A quiet walk through forests and across meadows, away from the main tourist crowds. Especially beautiful in the late afternoon when the light is soft.
A small lake near the Bidmi gondola station. A peaceful place to dip your feet in the cold water and enjoy the silence.
Away from the Alpen tower, the ridge walk at Planplatten gives spectacular but quieter views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.
Water temperature…
Hasliberg stretches across four villages (Hohfluh, Goldern, Wasserwendi, and Reuti) on a high plateau above the Haslital valley. The region is particularly popular with families as it is the home of the Muggestutz dwarfs; two themed trails tell the local legends of these mountain spirits. From the viewpoints, you have an unobstructed view of the Bernese High Alps and Lake Brienz. The Meiringen-Hasliberg mountain railways provide access to vast hiking areas in summer and 60 km of slopes in winter. The nearby Ballenberg Open-Air Museum is a cultural highlight, showcasing historic Swiss buildings. For food lovers, the valley is known for 'Haslikuchen', a local shortcrust pastry specialty. Access is possible by PostBus or cable car from Meiringen. The best time for family visits is mid-summer when all adventure stations are open, while skiers find the best conditions from January to March.
