Falsterbo Bird Observatory (Sweden)

Weather…

The Falsterbo Bird Observatory is located at the southwesternmost tip of Sweden on the Falsterbo peninsula. Due to its strategic geographical position, the peninsula acts as a natural funnel for millions of migratory birds crossing the Öresund strait heading south each autumn. The observatory was officially established in 1955, though scientific bird ringing has been conducted continuously at the site since 1947. Every year between August and November, millions of birds, including massive numbers of raptors, passerines, and seabirds, pass over Falsterbo. The observatory's work is internationally significant for monitoring avian population trends and studying the effects of climate change on migration patterns. Beyond research, the station is a major center for environmental education, attracting thousands of ornithologists and birdwatchers from around the globe annually. The coastal landscape, characterized by sand dunes and heathlands, also provides a unique habitat for specialized local flora and fauna.
