Borås Zoo (Borås Djurpark) was founded in 1962 by Sigvard Berggren and is located in the center of Borås, western Sweden. It was a pioneer in developing large, naturalistic communal exhibits, a concept that was revolutionary in the zoological world at the time. Spanning approximately 40 hectares, the park is home to about 600 animals representing 65 different species. The zoo is particularly famous for its African savanna, where African elephants, giraffes, and zebras roam together in a spacious habitat. The breeding of lions has a long and successful history at Borås, gaining the institution international acclaim. In addition to African wildlife, the zoo features Nordic species such as brown bears, wolves, moose, and lynx. Borås Zoo is deeply involved in global conservation initiatives and educational programs, aiming to inspire visitors to protect biodiversity. For families, the zoo includes interactive petting areas and educational trails through the surrounding forest.
