Pilar de la Horadada is situated at the southern tip of the Alicante province, bordering the region of Murcia. This coastal town is a popular tourist destination, mainly due to its 4 kilometres of coastline featuring fine sandy beaches like Mil Palmeras and Torre de la Horadada, which are regularly awarded the Blue Flag. Its landmark, the 16th-century watchtower (Torre de la Horadada) that gives the town its name, was built to protect against pirate attacks and dominates the coastal landscape. Besides sunbathing, the area provides excellent conditions for water sports such as sailing and diving. Away from the beaches, visitors can explore the Gratiniano Baches Archaeological and Ethnological Museum to learn about the region's rich history, dating back to Roman times. Gastronomy is based on fresh fish, seafood, and rice dishes like caldero. The area is also popular with cyclists and hikers, thanks to beautiful trails along the coast and inland. The town is easily accessible from both Alicante and Murcia airports. The best times to visit are spring and autumn to avoid the summer crowds, although the warm climate is pleasant year-round.
