💡 Tips

  • Walk the full length of the promenade that connects Palma Nova's three beaches: Son Maties, Na Nadala, and Es Carregador.
  • For a quieter beach day, head to the far ends of the main beaches, where it tends to be less crowded.
  • Take advantage of the frequent bus services to explore the capital city, Palma, for a day trip. The journey is short and inexpensive.
  • Although Palma Nova is quiet, the lively nightlife of Magaluf is just a short walk or a quick taxi ride away.
  • Rent a pedalo or try stand-up paddling in the late afternoon when the sea is at its calmest.

Palma Nova was one of the first purpose-built resorts on Mallorca, located in the Bay of Palma, west of the capital. Although it directly borders the lively Magaluf, Palma Nova's character is significantly quieter and more focused on families and older travelers. The town has a well-developed infrastructure with numerous hotels, holiday apartments, and a long beach promenade connecting all three main beaches. The three beaches, Playa de Son Maties, Playa de Palmanova, and Playa Es Carregador, are known for their fine sand and shallow, clean water, making them particularly safe for children. Along the promenade, there is a wide selection of international restaurants, British pubs, and Spanish chiringuitos. A special highlight for families is Golf Fantasia, a mini-golf course with tropical gardens and waterfalls, considered one of the best on the island. Palma Nova is inhabited year-round, meaning that many shops and restaurants remain open even in winter. The connection to Palma is excellent; buses run at short intervals, and the journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The town is first-rate as a starting point for excursions into the Tramuntana mountains or to Palma, while enjoying the benefits of a classic seaside resort. Gastronomy ranges from traditional paella to modern fusion cuisine in the newly established beach clubs at the northern end of the bay.
