Located in the heart of the Murcia region, Cehegín is a town with roots stretching back to prehistory. Its greatest treasure is its Old Town (Casco Antiguo), declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1982. A walk through its narrow, winding streets is like a journey back in time, passing Renaissance and Baroque palaces, noble houses, and impressive churches like the 16th-century Iglesia de Santa María Magdalena. The town is perched on a hill, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape with its orchards and vineyards. In addition to its architectural heritage, Cehegín is also known for its archaeology. The nearby rock paintings, part of the UNESCO World Heritage, and the remains of the Iberian city of Begastri testify to its long history. Culinarily, the town belongs to the D.O. Bullas wine region and is famous for its hearty dishes such as 'migas' or 'arroz con conejo' (rice with rabbit). The best way to get there is by car from Murcia or Alicante, to have the flexibility to explore the region. The best times to visit are spring and autumn to avoid the summer heat and to experience the lively local festivals, such as the Fiestas de San Zenón in June.
