💡 Tips
- The Balneario de Archena (thermal spa) is very popular. Book your entry and any treatments online in advance, especially for weekends, to avoid disappointment.
- Explore the Valle de Ricote outside of Archena itself. The landscape of palm groves and orchards bordering the River Segura is unique to this region.
- The weekly market is usually held on Saturday mornings. It's a great place to buy local produce and soak up the local atmosphere.
- Entry to the 'Espacio Termalium' spa area includes access to various thermal pools. Bring your own flip-flops and towel to save on rental fees.

A classic inland rice dish with rabbit and snails. Look for a restaurant specialising in local rice dishes to find an authentic version.

Water temperature…
Archena is picturesquely situated in the Ricote Valley on the banks of the Segura River in the Murcia region. Its main highlight is the Balneario de Archena, a thermal complex with a history spanning over 2,000 years. Even the Romans valued the 52-degree Celsius springs for their healing properties. Today's facility is a masterpiece of eclecticism, featuring a magnificent Moorish dining hall reminiscent of the Alhambra alongside modern wellness zones. The waters of Archena are particularly rich in sulfur, chlorine, and sodium, making them good for treating respiratory and joint conditions. Surrounding the spas, the town has lush palm groves and orchards that provide a stark contrast to the dry Murcian landscape. A stroll along the Segura River promenade features pure relaxation and leads to the Archena Museum, which displays archaeological finds from the Bronze and Roman ages. The town is also famous for its Holy Week (Semana Santa) processions, which are of significant cultural importance in the region. Visitors should sample the local wines and 'Michirones' (a hearty bean stew). Thanks to its mild climate, Archena is a year-round destination, with spring being particularly beautiful during the almond blossom season.
