Cape Point Lighthouse (South Africa)

Weather…

The new Cape Point Lighthouse was constructed in 1914 and became fully operational in 1919 after the original lighthouse was found to be ineffective due to frequent low-hanging clouds. Situated at a lower elevation of 87 meters above sea level, it is considered the most powerful light on the South African coast with an intensity of 10 million candlepower. The white masonry tower stands at the tip of the Cape Peninsula, overlooking the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Its powerful beam can be seen for approximately 60 kilometers out to sea, providing a vital navigation aid for ships rounding the Cape of Good Hope. The site is a major tourist attraction within the Table Mountain National Park, offering dramatic views of the rugged cliffs and the vast ocean below. Despite being over a century old, the lighthouse continues to play a crucial role in maritime safety in one of the world's most famous shipping lanes.
