MacRitchie Reservoir Park (Singapore)

Weather…

MacRitchie Reservoir Park is Singapore's oldest water reservoir and forms a core component of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Completed in 1868, it was originally known as the Impounding Reservoir before being renamed in 1922 after James MacRitchie, the municipal engineer who oversaw its expansion. The park serves not only as a crucial water resource but also as a premier hub for nature conservation and outdoor recreation. Geographically, the area is blanketed by dense primary and secondary rainforests, accessible through a 11-kilometer network of nature trails. A highlight for visitors is the TreeTop Walk, a 250-meter free-standing suspension bridge that soars 25 meters above the forest floor, providing a unique bird's-eye view of the canopy. The park is home to diverse wildlife, including long-tailed macaques, monitor lizards, and exotic birds. Historically, it houses the memorial of Lim Bo Seng, a significant resistance hero of World War II. The reservoir is also a popular venue for competitive and recreational kayaking and rowing.

🎒
What to bring
Sturdy trekking shoes with good grip are essential, as is lightweight outdoor clothing that dries quickly. A reliable insect repellent is indispensable at the valley floor.
