Hong San See Temple (Singapore)

Weather…

Hong San See Temple is a magnificent Hokkien temple located on Mohamed Sultan Road in Singapore, dedicated to the deity Guang Ze Zun Wang. Originally established in 1836 at Wallich Street, the temple was rebuilt at its current hilltop location between 1908 and 1913. The architecture follows the traditional Southern Chinese style, characterized by intricate wood carvings, massive granite columns, and spirited porcelain shard work. A standout feature of the design is the pair of dancing dragons atop the roof, symbolizing divine protection and good fortune. The temple's elevated position once provided an unobstructed view of the sea, a layout considered auspicious in Feng Shui, before urban land reclamation projects moved the coast further away. In 2010, the temple was honored with the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation for its exemplary restoration. Gazetted as a National Monument in 1978, it continues to serve as a vital cultural and religious landmark for the Hokkien community.
