Fruška Gora is an isolated island mountain in the Pannonian Plain, Northern Serbia, designated as the country's first National Park in 1960. Reaching an elevation of 539 meters, it is a biodiversity hotspot with dense oak and beech forests. The mountain is famously called 'Serbia's Holy Mountain' as it shelters 16 active Orthodox monasteries built between the 15th and 18th centuries to preserve Serbian culture. Notable monasteries include Krušedol, Hopovo, and Velika Remeta. The park gives over 400 km of hiking and cycling trails, scenic viewpoints like Stražilovo, and thermal spas in Vrdnik. It is also one of Europe's oldest wine regions, with vineyards dating back to the Roman era. Tourists can visit countless wine cellars on the 'Fruška Gora Wine Route'. Artificial lakes like Bešenovo and Ledinci are popular for swimming and photography. Located just a short drive from Novi Sad and Belgrade, it is a prime weekend destination. The best time to visit is during spring for hiking or autumn for the grape harvest. Local cuisine features hearty game dishes and Balkan charcuterie.
