Đerdap National Park, home to the famous Iron Gates, stretches over 100 km along the Danube in Eastern Serbia. It is the largest and longest river gorge in Europe, where the Danube breaks through the Carpathian Mountains. At its narrowest point, the Great Kazan, the river is only 150 meters wide but reaches a depth of over 80 meters. The park is a treasure trove of biodiversity and history, housing the prehistoric site of Lepenski Vir, dating back to 9,500 BC, which showcases some of the oldest sculptural art in the world. Tourist highlights include boat tours to see the Roman Tabula Traiana, visible only from the water, and hiking to the Veliki Štrbac viewpoint for panoramic panoramas of the gorge. The park's entrance is marked by the formidable Golubac Fortress. Diverse wildlife, including bears and lynx, inhabits the dense forests.
