Look for this traditional Banat stew in the local guesthouses. It's often made with mushrooms foraged from the surrounding forests.
At the restaurants by Văliug Lake (Gozna), at the base of the mountain, you can enjoy fresh, locally caught trout.
Ask for the homemade blueberry liqueur. It's a strong, warming drink, great after a day on the slopes.
In late summer and autumn, locals sometimes sell freshly picked berries and mushrooms along the road leading to the resort.
Look for jars of local honey sold at guesthouses or by locals. It's an authentic souvenir.
Step off the main slopes and follow any of the marked trails leading into the dense fir forests of the Semenic-Cheile Carașului National Park.
The lake at the base of the mountain is a peaceful spot for a walk, especially on summer mornings as the mist rises off the water.
Climb the peak on a spring or autumn weekday for a wide-open view all to yourself, without the winter crowds.

Semenic is a premier mountain massif and resort in the Banat Mountains, located close to the industrial city of Reșița. At an altitude of 1,444 meters, the Semenic plateau enjoys a specific microclimate that ensures one of the longest snow covers in Romania, often lasting until late spring. The ski resort features several runs, including the notable Semenic-Văliug slope, which is one of the longest in the country, providing an exhilarating descent through old-growth forests. During the summer months, Semenic transforms into a hub for hiking, mountain biking, and eco-tourism. It is part of the Semenic-Cheile Carașului National Park, which protects Europe's largest pristine beech forest, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can hike to the Piatra Goznei peak or visit the Trei Ape and Văliug lakes at the foot of the mountain for swimming and water sports. The high concentration of ozone in the air makes it a first-rate destination for health retreats. The resort area is dotted with chalets and lodges offering a cozy, rustic mountain vibe. Local gastronomy highlights Banat traditions, featuring hearty soups and game-based dishes. Access is provided by a well-maintained mountain road from Reșița, winding through dense forests. Semenic is good for travelers seeking an authentic Carpathian experience away from the crowded resorts of the Prahova Valley.
