Ilhéu das Rolas (São Tomé & Príncipe)

Weather…

Ilhéu das Rolas is a small volcanic islet located just a few kilometers off the southern tip of São Tomé, world-renowned for its position directly on the Equator. A prominent monument on the island marks the exact path of the equatorial line, where visitors can stand simultaneously in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The island is of volcanic origin and is characterized by lush tropical vegetation, coconut palm groves, and pristine sandy beaches such as Praia Pesqueira. Geologically, it is part of the Cameroon volcanic line and features rugged basaltic coastlines and natural rock pools. The only settlement on the island houses a small local community, while the rest of the territory remains largely wild. Access to the island is provided by boat from nearby Porto Alegre on São Tomé. In addition to its geographical significance, Ilhéu das Rolas is an essential site for observing sea turtles that come to the beaches to lay their eggs. The island also has panoramic views of the main island of São Tomé and the imposing Pico Cão Grande in the distance.
