Teleki Castle in Gornești (Romania)

Weather…

The Teleki Castle in Gornești, Mureș County, is often referred to as the 'Grassalkovich of Transylvania' due to its exquisite Baroque architecture. Built between 1771 and 1778 at the behest of Count Mihály Teleki, the castle stands on the site of a former medieval moated fortress. Designed by architect Andreas Mayerhoffer, the structure features a U-shaped layout and an elegant facade with 52 windows, symbolically representing the weeks of the year. The castle is surrounded by a sprawling English-style landscape park, famous for its rare centuries-old trees and Baroque mythological statues. Following nationalization in the 20th century, it functioned as a children's hospital before being returned to the Teleki family in 2006. Today, the castle serves as a cultural hub and museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the lifestyle of the Transylvanian aristocracy and the refined art of Baroque gardening.
