Târgu Mureș Administrative Palace (Romania)

Weather…

The Administrative Palace in Târgu Mureș is a masterpiece of Art Nouveau (Secession) architecture, built between 1905 and 1907. Commissioned by Mayor György Bernády, it was designed by the acclaimed Budapest architects Marcell Komor and Dezső Jakab. The building is most famous for its animated roof, covered in colorful Zsolnay ceramic tiles from Pécs, which sparkle under the sun. Its clock tower stands 60 meters tall, serving as a landmark for the entire city center. Inside, the palace features exquisite stained glass windows, ornate wrought-iron railings, and elaborate stuccowork typical of the Secession style. Today, the building houses the Prefecture of Mureș County and the Mureș County Council. It is a central element of the architectural ensemble in Roses Square, representing the cultural and administrative peak of the city at the turn of the 20th century. The facade is adorned with floral motifs and folk-inspired decorations, blending local traditions with European modernist trends.
