Lupeni is a prominent mining town in Hunedoara County, located in the western reaches of the Jiu Valley within the Southern Carpathians. It is historically significant for the Lupeni Strike of 1929, a landmark event in the Romanian labor movement that highlighted the harsh conditions faced by the working class.
