Iezerul Peak in the Parâng Mountains stands at an elevation of 2,157 meters, overlooking one of the range's most impressive glacial features. It rises directly above Lake Iezer, a large and deep glacial lake that sits in a massive cirque carved during the last ice age. The peak is characterized by its rugged terrain, composed of ancient metamorphic rocks like gneiss and schist, which have been sharpened by glacial erosion. This area is a prime example of the high-altitude landscape in the Southern Carpathians, featuring steep cliffs and extensive boulder fields. Historically, the peak and the nearby lake were significant for transhumant shepherds, providing water and shelter for livestock in the high mountains. Hikers often visit Iezerul as part of the ridge trek toward Parângul Mare, the highest point in the range. The summit provides a dramatic view of the blue lake below and the surrounding craggy ridges. It remains a vital habitat for alpine fauna such as chamois and large birds of prey like the golden eagle. The peak is known for its pristine environment and the diverse alpine flowers that bloom in the summer months.
