Bușteni, often called the "Gateway to the Bucegi Mountains," is one of Romania's most popular mountain resorts, situated in the Prahova Valley at an altitude of about 850 meters. The town is overlooked by the imposing Caraiman Massif, featuring the monumental Heroes' Cross on its peak, which commemorates those fallen in World War I. Erected between 1926 and 1928, this structure holds the Guinness World Record for the tallest cross located on a mountain summit. Another significant cultural landmark is Cantacuzino Castle, built in 1911 in the Neo-Romanian architectural style by Prince Grigore Cantacuzino. Bușteni serves as a primary starting point for hikes to the Babele plateau and the Sphinx rock formations, which are also reachable via a scenic cable car. Historically, the town was a center for paper manufacturing, but it has since transitioned into a year-round tourist hub known for its alpine scenery and outdoor recreation.
