Codlea, known in German as Zeiden, is an important municipality in Brașov County, situated at the base of the Măgura Codlei Mountain in the Burzenland region. The town was founded by the Teutonic Knights in the early 13th century and has a rich history as a major Saxon settlement in Transylvania. Its central fortified Evangelical Church, dating back to the 15th century, is a prime example of medieval defense architecture designed to protect the community. During the 20th century, Codlea became widely known for its extensive greenhouses and flower production, earning the nickname 'City of Flowers' across the region. Today, the local economy is supported by various industries, including chemical manufacturing and woodworking, alongside traditional agriculture. The Măgura Codlei, rising to 1,292 meters, provides a remarkable backdrop and is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Codlea remains an animated cultural bridge between its historic Saxon heritage and contemporary Romanian urban development.
