Cristian, known in German as Neustadt, is a scenic settlement in the Burzenland region, located on the outskirts of Brașov. Established in the 13th century by Transylvanian Saxon settlers, the village is a prime example of Saxon architectural heritage. Its focal point is the impressive Fortified Church, surrounded by double defensive walls and towers that protected the community for centuries. The interior of the church features rare Gothic elements and a beautiful Baroque altar. Cristian is also affectionately known as 'the village of storks,' as numerous white storks build their nests on the rooftops here each spring, creating a serene and natural spectacle. Economically, Cristian has transformed into a dynamic hub due to its proximity to Brașov and the development of a major industrial park. Despite this modernization, the historic center remains strictly preserved, with traditional Saxon houses and cobblestone streets that attract visitors looking for Transylvanian authenticity and mountain-side tranquility.
