Irkaya Bird Sanctuary (Qatar)

Weather…

The Irkaya Bird Sanctuary, also known as Irkaya Farm, is a private nature reserve located in the southern desert of Qatar. It was created and is maintained to provide a safe haven for birds, especially during their long migrations. The sanctuary consists of several small lakes fed by treated water and plantings of trees and shrubs that offer food, shelter, and nesting sites for birds. This has created an artificial oasis that attracts an impressive variety of bird species, from waders to songbirds, making it one of the premier birdwatching spots in the country. Although it is privately owned, the owners often grant access to birdwatchers by appointment. The project stands as a testament to how private initiative can make a significant contribution to conservation and biodiversity in an arid environment.
