Al Sailiya is a district on the western edge of the Doha metropolitan area, belonging to the Al Rayyan municipality. It has a mixed function as a residential, logistics, and military location. Al Sailiya is home to Qatar's central fruit and vegetable market, a huge complex that supplies the entire country. Next to it, there is a large logistics park that takes advantage of the district's strategic location on the country's main transport arteries. The residential area of Al Sailiya is a mix of older farms and new housing developments. The district is also known for the Al Sailiya Sports Club and its football team. A significant international presence is Camp As Sayliyah, a US Army base. The proximity to the desert gives Al Sailiya a special character and makes it a gateway for desert excursions.
