Al Kiranah is a settlement in southwestern Qatar, administratively part of the Al Rayyan municipality. The location gained international recognition through the Al Kiranah Ponds project, a large-scale ecological rehabilitation of former wastewater ponds. Where environmental pollution once prevailed, a significant wetland has emerged, serving as a sanctuary for migratory birds and local wildlife. This ecological transformation has made Al Kiranah a model for sustainable development in the desert state. The settlement itself is small, primarily serving as a residential area for workers in the surrounding energy and construction industries. The vicinity features limestone formations and desert landscapes typical of the Qatari hinterland. Its strategic position along Salwa Road connects the site directly to the Saudi Arabian border and the capital city, Doha. Despite its industrial proximity, the area maintains a unique natural component through its newly created water bodies, attracting researchers and nature enthusiasts alike.
