Estoi Palace (Portugal)

Weather…

The Estoi Palace, located in the Algarve hinterland near Faro, is a prime example of Romantic and Rococo architecture in southern Portugal. Construction began in the mid-19th century under Francisco José Pereira do Carmo but stalled after his death, only reaching completion in 1909 under the Viscount of Estoi. The palace is easily recognized by its bright pink facade and lavish interiors designed in the Louis XV style, featuring intricate stucco work and ceiling paintings. Its terraced gardens are particularly famous, decorated with statues, fountains, and traditional 19th-century azulejo tiles. Modeled after classical Italian villa gardens, the grounds offer sweeping views across the coastal plains. Following a period of neglect in the 20th century, the palace underwent extensive restoration and now serves as a high-end Pousada, though its historic gardens and select areas remain open to the public.
