Montejunto Range (Portugal)

Weather…

The Serra de Montejunto is a limestone mountain range in the Estremadura region, located about 65 kilometers north of Lisbon. With a maximum elevation of 666 meters at the Penha do Meio-Dia peak, it is the highest point in the northern region of Estremadura. Historically, the range is significant for the Real Fábrica do Gelo, an 18th-century royal ice factory where ice was produced for the court in Lisbon. During the Napoleonic Wars, the mountains served as a strategic observation point within the Lines of Torres Vedras defense system. The area was classified as a Protected Landscape in 1999 to preserve its rich flora, featuring over 400 plant species, and diverse fauna. The local climate is heavily influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, often resulting in dense fog covering the slopes.
