Zakopane Alpine Botanical Garden (Poland)

Weather…

The Alpine Botanical Garden in Zakopane, tucked away at the foothills of the mighty Tatra Mountains, is a scientific gem and holds the distinction of being the highest-altitude botanical garden in Poland. Established in the 1920s and managed by the Polish Academy of Sciences, it is entirely dedicated to the conservation, research, and display of the highly specific mountain flora of the Carpathians, particularly the Tatras. Within its compact, rocky terrain, the garden provides visitors with the unique opportunity to closely observe high-alpine endemics and extremely rare mountain plants without having to undertake perilous climbing expeditions into the summit regions. In addition to its educational role, the garden functions as a critical gene bank for plant species that are massively threatened in their natural habitats by climate change and alpine tourism. Vividly colored edelweiss, alpine gentians, and the famous Tatra larkspur bloom here under the constant care of expert botanists.
