Highlights of 2026

The Łódź Zoo has transformed in recent years into one of the most spectacular zoological institutions in Central Europe, largely due to the opening of its monumental 'Orientarium' in 2022. This gigantic pavilion complex is dedicated entirely to the fascinating fauna and flora of Southeast Asia, setting completely new standards in zoo animal husbandry. The centerpiece is a massive aquatic basin traversed by a fully glazed underwater tunnel; here, majestic rays and imposing sharks glide seemingly weightlessly directly above the visitors' heads. Another major highlight is the spacious enclosure for Indian elephants, where the animals can be observed taking daily extended baths in their indoor pool. Beyond the Orientarium, the Łódź Zoo is heavily involved in international breeding programs for critically endangered species such as the Sumatran orangutan and the Asiatic lion, all located within the tranquil, wooded recreation area of Zdrowie Park.
