Zeewolde, located in the province of Flevoland, holds the unique title of being the youngest municipality in the Netherlands, built entirely on reclaimed land. Unlike other towns in Flevoland, Zeewolde is not on an island but on the 'mainland' polder. The town is renowned for its modern, spacious planning that prioritizes nature and recreation. It borders the Wolderwijd and Nuldernauw lakes, making it a prime destination for sailing, windsurfing, and swimming. One of its major attractions is the Horsterwold, one of the largest deciduous forests in Western Europe, excellent for hiking, cycling, and wildlife spotting. Culinarily, Zeewolde has a variety of restaurants and cafes, many of them waterfront, serving fresh fish and local produce. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly. Getting to Zeewolde is easiest by car via the A27 and A28 motorways. The nearest major train station is in Harderwijk, from where there are bus connections. Due to its focus on outdoor activities, summer is the handy season to visit. Visitors can then fully enjoy the beaches, lakes, and forests in warm weather and participate in numerous local events.
