Landmark
Sarangkot, a former village development committee, is now primarily known as one of Nepal's most spectacular viewpoints. It is located on a 1,592-meter high ridge northwest of Pokhara and gives panoramic panoramic views of the main Himalayan range. On clear days, the view stretches from Dhaulagiri in the west, across the Annapurna massif (including Annapurna I, the tenth highest mountain in the world), to the distinctive peak of Machapuchare (Fishtail) and Manaslu in the east. Sarangkot is particularly famous for its sunrises and sunsets, which illuminate the snow-capped peaks in bustling colors. Besides the observation tower, Sarangkot is also an internationally recognized launch site for paragliding and ziplining, attracting adrenaline junkies from all over the world. An old fort and temple area on the summit of the hill also has cultural insight.

Visiting
Sarangkot Viewpoint is freely accessible at any time as it is a public ridge. There is no entrance ticket, but parking fees may apply.
Typical hours
The site is open 24 hours, but the best time to visit is before sunrise for the panorama. Sunrise is the main attraction, so come early.
Photography
Photography is allowed everywhere on the ridge, and the view of the Annapurna massif is spectacular. A telephoto lens is recommended for close-ups of the peaks.
Time needed
Allow at least two hours, including travel and waiting for sunrise. Afterwards you can hike back down or drive off at leisure.
Combine with
Combine the viewpoint with nearby Pokhara city and Phewa Lake. A visit to the Peace Pagoda in the afternoon fits well.
Getting there
Sarangkot is reachable from Pokhara by taxi or tuk-tuk in about 30 minutes. Many visitors also hike up from the city in 1-2 hours.
Insider tip
Arrive at least 45 minutes before sunrise to secure a good spot. A flashlight is handy for the dark walk.
