Otjikoto Gold Mine (Namibia)

Weather…

The Otjikoto Gold Mine, located between Otjiwarongo and Otavi, is one of Namibia's newer gold mines and has quickly become one of the country's largest gold producers. Operations commenced in early 2015 and it is operated by B2Gold, a Canadian mining company. The mine consists of two open pits, Otjikoto and Wolfshag. As the Otjikoto pit nears the end of its life, the development of the Wolfshag orebody, which is being mined by both open-pit and underground methods, has secured the mine's future. The processing plant uses a conventional milling and carbon-in-leach process. The Otjikoto mine is a major economic driver for the Otjozondjupa Region and is known for its community investment and high environmental standards, including a successful program to translocate rare animal species before mining began.
