Oshikuku is a prominent town in Namibia's Omusati Region, serving as the administrative center for the Oshikuku constituency. The town is situated along the C46 main road, which connects the densely populated northern regions, and is historically closely linked with the Uukwambi Kingdom. In 1924, a Roman Catholic mission was established here, which significantly shaped social development through the construction of St. Martin's Hospital and numerous schools. Oshikuku is also known as the birthplace and seat of Iipumbu ya Shilongo, one of the most prominent Uukwambi kings, whose resistance against colonial powers is honored in local history to this day. The town's economy is characterized by a growing commercial sector, small-scale industries, and surrounding subsistence farming, particularly the cultivation of pearl millet (mahangu). In recent decades, Oshikuku has experienced rapid urbanization and was officially proclaimed a town in 2011. Today, it serves as a major healthcare hub for northern Namibia, hosting modern administrative and educational facilities.
