Khamariin Khiid Monastery (Mongolia)

Weather…

Khamariin Khiid was founded in 1820 by the renowned Mongolian educator, poet, and monk Danzanravjaa in the heart of the Gobi Desert. It is revered as one of Mongolia's most significant spiritual hubs and is frequently referred to as the 'World Energy Center.' Danzanravjaa established an institution that was remarkably progressive for its era, featuring a public theater, an art gallery, and a school open to both boys and girls. The monastery gained fame for its elaborate Cham dances and its dedication to preserving Mongolian culture. Following its destruction in 1938, many sacred artifacts were hidden in the desert by a local guardian, effectively saving them from the communist authorities. Since the monastery's reopening in 1990, these treasures have been unearthed and are now displayed in the Danzanravjaa Museum in Sainshand. The site currently includes the Shambhala complex, meditation caves, and the popular 'Wish Mountain,' drawing pilgrims from across the nation.
