White Stupa (Tsagaan Suvarga) (Mongolia)

Weather…

Tsagaan Suvarga, often called the 'White Stupa,' is a striking limestone formation located in the Ulziit district of Dundgovi Province in southern Mongolia. Millions of years ago, this geological site was the floor of an ancient ocean, evidenced today by the abundance of marine fossils and seashells found embedded in the rock. The formation stretches for approximately 400 meters and rises to heights of up to 60 meters. Over eons, wind and water erosion have sculpted the cliffs into jagged shapes that resemble ancient city ruins or Buddhist stupas when viewed from afar. The site is famous for its multicolored sedimentary layers, which range from brilliant whites and yellows to deep oranges and pinks, changing in intensity with the shifting sunlight. The surrounding environment is characteristically arid, part of the expansive Gobi Desert landscape. Tsagaan Suvarga is widely regarded as one of Mongolia's most photogenic natural wonders, offering panoramic views across the central Asian plains.
