Water temperature…
Dalanzadgad, whose name means seventy wells, sits at 1,470 metres above sea level on the northern edge of the Gobi Desert. It has been the capital of Ömnögovi (South Gobi) Province since 1942, has around 25,000 inhabitants and serves as the principal gateway to the Gobi. Visitors set out from here for the Gurvansaikhan National Park, established in 1993 and covering some 27,000 square kilometres. Inside the park are the singing dunes of Khongoryn Els, 180 kilometres long and up to 300 metres high, the Yolyn Am gorge that holds ice well into summer and the famous Bayanzag cliffs, where Roy Chapman Andrews uncovered the world's first dinosaur eggs in 1922. The town lies 553 kilometres south of Ulaanbaatar and has been connected by paved road to the capital since 2014. The local airport runs two weekly flights to Ulaanbaatar. Wildlife in the surrounding park includes wild Bactrian camels, Gobi bears and argali wild sheep, all protected.
