Selenge Agricultural Area (Mongolia)

Weather…

Selenge Province is the most productive agricultural region in Mongolia, accounting for over fifty percent of the total national grain and vegetable output. This success is largely due to its location within the Orkhon-Selenge river basin, where the confluence of major rivers creates a fertile environment. The region is characterized by deep, nutrient-rich dark soil, which is rare in the predominantly arid Mongolian landscape. Agriculture in Selenge is highly mechanized, reflecting a legacy of large-scale farming that has evolved with modern technology. Wide plains allow for the efficient use of machinery to cultivate vast fields of wheat, barley, and various vegetables. The abundance of freshwater from the river systems supports extensive irrigation networks, ensuring stable harvests even during dry years. As the agricultural powerhouse of the country, Selenge is central to the supply chain of fresh produce to the capital, Ulaanbaatar. This region continues to attract investment for advanced sustainable farming practices.
