Kharkhiraa Mountain is a prominent massif in the Altai range located in northwestern Mongolia, specifically within the Uvs Province. Reaching a maximum elevation of 4,037 meters above sea level, it stands as one of the region's most significant glaciated peaks. The geology of the mountain is defined by volcanic rocks and metamorphic formations, providing evidence of the tectonic history of Central Asia. Numerous rivers originate from the valleys of Kharkhiraa, playing a vital role in sustaining the dry steppe ecosystems downstream. Reaching the rugged base of this prominent twin peak requires a challenging multi-day off-road drive from Ulaangom, usually followed by hiring local pack animals for the long approach trek.
