Tabăra Monastery, situated in the Orhei district, stands as an important testament to the rich monastic history of Moldova. It was founded in 1784 by boyar Gheorghe Russo, who established the retreat near the village of Tabăra to provide a space for spiritual reflection. While it began as a monastery for monks, it was transitioned into a convent for nuns in 1815, leading to the expansion of the living quarters and the construction of additional facilities. The main stone church, dedicated to the Assumption of the Mother of God, was completed in 1812 and is noted for its harmonious architectural proportions. Like many religious sites in the area, the monastery was forcibly closed in 1959 by the Soviet leadership, and its buildings were repurposed for secular uses. The reopening occurred in 1990, marking the start of a long restoration process for its damaged frescoes and aging infrastructure. Today, the monastery supports a growing community of nuns who engage in prayer, traditional crafts, and agriculture.
